The House FM: How Can I Know God’s Will? (Part 3 - The Bible)
When you get in your car and are going someplace for the first time, or the twentieth time, what do you pull up on your phone or your car screen?
A map. GPS. A voice that speaks with a British accent telling you when to turn.
Magically, it seems to know how to get you wherever you need to go.
The Bible isn’t magic, but it DOES know how to get you where you’re going.
The Person who designed you, started your heart beating, and breathed life into you is the same Person who wrote the directions for your life. He knows you better than anyone does
and knows how to get you where you’re going.
In His indescribable love, He didn’t just create you, set you in motion, and wish you good luck. He wrote a book for you to guide you through life–every moment, every decision, every feeling, and every surprising situation.
The Bible is the main way God communicates with us. Without the Bible, the other ways He guides us won’t work. But it’s not a one-and-done. It’s an everyday download. You have to pull it up every single day for it to do its best work.
It won’t tell you what day to begin potty training your child, but over time it will give you wisdom and understanding to make all small and big decisions better and with confidence. The words of God are clarifying.
Let’s anchor these thoughts in a few verses from the Bible itself:
“All Scripture is God breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16, NIV), meaning He infused His life into every original word. His essence comes off the page and stirs our soul. It’s powerful!
When we delight in His words and think about them every day, “That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither, whatever they do prospers” (Psalm 1:3, NIV). It makes us successful!
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8, NIV). We’re leaving all our earthly stuff behind, but when we get to heaven guess what will be there? The Word of God! Our breath and heartbeat are temporary, and that fishing boat will rust, but the Bible stands. It’s forever!
