Easy To Love

Valentine’s Day may be in your rearview mirror, but love isn’t a seasonal thing. We are called to love one another as God loves: to serve, to sacrifice, to show the world that Christ is alive in our lives. Of course, anybody can love someone who’s easy to love. It takes someone who has experienced God’s grace to love even the most difficult people. These folks need to feel loved, too. Especially, if they don’t have a relationship with God. Being the hands and feet of Jesus becomes your responsibility. It’s up to you to help them experience love in a very real way. If you’re finding that difficult to do, look to God for help.
By loving God more than anyone else, you’ll develop a new love for others like you’ve never known. Loving people who would never step into a church. People who might even mock the church. People who might even believe the church is the opposite of love. In Matthew 5:43-44 Jesus says, “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!” One way to know that you love your enemies is when you can pray for them and ask God’s blessings upon them. My challenge for you today is to pray for those who have wronged you. Pray for those who see life differently than you do. Don’t just pray that they get their lives right, but pray that they will experience God’s love, first and foremost, and that God would give you opportunities to love them unconditionally, just like He loves you. That’s how relationships start. You may find it causes you to release the hurts, grudges, and unforgiveness you have in your heart against them.
