The phrase, “do not be afraid” is listed 365 times in the Bible. A reminder for everyday. I think with how quickly the world is changing, that reminder is as necessary as before. When fear is stripped away, it is replaced with faith, confidence, and excitement. Excitement is probably my favorite part because it’s a more emotional and joyful result of having so much trust in God. It’s also contagious. I watched a video of a Coca-Cola ad the other day, which I attached at the end of this post. People are sitting in a train and a man is watching a funny video on his phone to pass the time. Even though he has headphones on, he can’t contain his laughter from what he’s watching. His laugh gets louder but he doesn’t seem to be afraid of what others are thinking. People around him were overhearing his fits of laughter and slowly, the train began to fill with joy as more passengers laughed with him. They had no idea what the man was laughing about, but his reaction was contagious for those around him. I think this is a beautiful example of how our excitement for God can cause others to light up. And the best part is when the why question is asked. Why are you so happy? Why are you so excited? Why are you...not afraid? Because God is good and Jesus is coming back. So, why not choose joy when God has good plans? Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Our attitude is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. To be a light that draws people in. Not everyone will stop to ask “why” and that’s okay because you only need to have faith in God, not people.
