The Joy of Recognizing the Ordinary
August 2, 2023 by DC
In your busy life, it’s easy to overlook those everyday blessings that God has graciously given you. You might take for granted the simplest things, failing to see the wonders that surround you each day. However, sometimes moments come along that remind you of the beauty in the ordinary and the importance of being grateful for these things. One such reminder can be found in a heartwarming video of a young man coming out of surgery and anesthesia. In his groggy state, he is amazed and grateful for things that you may often overlook. As he joyfully realizes that he has a family, a dog, and even his own chair at home, he expresses genuine gratitude for these seemingly basic blessings. This video serves as a gentle nudge to see the world through grateful eyes. Enjoy the video here:
The Bible encourages you to give thanks to God and be mindful of His blessings in your life:
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:18 – “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
  • Psalm 136:1 – “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”
  • Colossians 3:17 – “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
I hope as you reflect on this young man’s reaction in the video, you’ll be inspired to develop a similar appreciation for the seemingly ordinary blessings in your own life. Take a moment each day to count your blessings, recognizing the joy in the simple things like having eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart that beats. In your gratitude, draw closer to God, recognizing His love and care for you in every aspect of your life. Let your heart be full of thankfulness, realizing that every good and perfect gift comes from our Good Good Father. Offer praises to God, not just for the extraordinary, but also for the everyday miracles that are often overlooked. Even in difficult times, God’s love for you is constant and unchanging. So, work towards maintaining an attitude of gratitude, trusting that God is working all things for your good. You might begin to feel more like the young man in the video and realize your “life is perfect”.
