BioBlitz: Bickham-Rudkin Park

Edmond Urban Forestry is hosting a virtual BioBlitz this September as part of a nationwide Parks for Pollinators initiative by the National Recreation and Park Association.
For a whole month, community members can help create a snapshot of the variety of wildlife that can be found in Bickham-Rudkin Park. We use a no-cost app called iNaturalist to take pictures of plants, insects and animals to see what wildlife is present in the park during this month.
We also have several opportunities to get involved during this BioBlitz event. More details for each event is available through the main event listing:

- Plant Walk with a Botanist - September 5 / 10am-12pm
- Tree Walk with a Forester - September 11 / 6-7:30pm
- Bugwatching - September 12 / 6-7pm
- Moth Night - September 12 / 8pm-midnight
- Plant and Pollinator Photo Meetup - September 19 / 10-11:30am

40th Annual Cherokee Strip Cook-Off

The 40th Annual Cherokee Strip Cook-off will once again be held on the banks of Lake Ponca in Ponca City, Oklahoma. The cook-off is a State Championship and sanctioned by KCBS. You will have an opportunity to taste some of the best barbeque available cooked by professional cooks. Activities include musical entertainment, and a People’s Choice award given to the crowd-selected favorite BBQ and Chili.
There is FREE ADMISSION to the event. Tasting kits will be sold in advance for $7 and can be purchased from a Professionals Today member or the Chamber of Commerce. If you wait to purchase at the cook-off the cost will be $9. Each tasting kit will include two ballots to vote for your favorite BBQ and Chili teams.

Cluck, Oink, Moo 5K

Join the RecPlex on September 19th for the Cluck, Oink, Moo 5K and then tasting some delicious BBQ at the Cherokee Strip Cook Off! The race will be chip timed and will take place on the west side of Lake Ponca and will begin near the flag pole. This 5K race is the perfect time to get out and enjoy the beautiful scenery that Lake Ponca has to offer. Enrollees will receive a race shirt and a test kit for the Cook Off. In order to ensure a shirt on race day, enrollment must be completed by September 6th.
