They are not your enemy.
There is an author that wrote a best selling book and sold millions of them. My Grandpa had this book by his side table, "88 reasons why the Lord is coming in 1988 " Something I learned recently is when the Lord didn't come in 1988, that same author wrote a revised version, this is true. "89 reasons why the Lord is coming in 1989." Oh boy.
Although none of us can possibly know when this will happen. The Bible tells us there will be signs. It's true that we've already experienced a variety of these signs. Titus 2:13, 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 1 John 2:18...
It's really gotten me to thinking about my behavior towards those around me. Because regardless if the Lord comes during our time on this earth or not it doesn't change the fact that our time is short. Sometimes it's easy to pick up other behaviors of our culture and embrace them as our own. We compromise. But I want to be different.
In an act of repentance Lord, I'm going to step away from all the things I know you don't like.
We live in a Babylonian culture. We're talking about the Babylonians at church right now. It sounds like we have a lot in common. The good news is, we have the opportunity to look around and say, "who can I influence for Jesus."
The next time you encounter someone that rubs you wrong, that one on the school board, the one that's bitter, that one on the HOA that's made everybody angry, the one that's difficult, cold, maybe just downright mean remember this...
"They are not enemies to be conquered, they are lost souls that need to be touched by the power of Jesus"
