Love is a grand thing!

Love is a grand thing! Now that it’s officially February, I want to dive into the origin of l-o-v-e. What story is tied to the first time “love” is mentioned in the Bible? And why do we need to know it? The answer is in Genesis 22:1-2: “God tested Abraham and said to him, ‘Abraham!’ ‘Here I am,’ he answered. ‘Take your son,’ he said, ‘your only son Isaac, whom you love, go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about’ ” The first experience and circumstance that God used to define love was in a relatable way, personal for us to understand. This took place even before scripture explained that God gave His only son to save us. Abraham being asked to sacrifice his son, his pride and joy. This was God foreshadowing the greatest love story to exist which is God sacrificing His only son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. Abraham was obedient to God, despite the heartbreak it would bring his family. He loved God with all of his heart. As a result, a spotless lamb was offered instead. There are so many blessings in this story because of obedience. Psalms 128:1-2: Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. I hope by reading this, you feel encouraged to give your all to God this February, to not withhold, and to be obedient. God is the grandest love we will ever receive!
