Dry Bones

Spooky decorations are basically everywhere since it’s October. I’m all about
turning the table to point a topic back towards God... so I’m going to put a fresh perspective on
them so when you see them, you maybe won’t think of Halloween. But instead, will be
reminded of your calling from God.
In Proverbs 17:22, it says “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the
bones.”
We all experience a crushed spirit. Some even function day to day feeling dead inside because
they do not know God and His goodness. In fact, I often hear the phrase, “I feel dead inside.”
That’s quite a heavy statement. But, God does help us out with some instructions in Ezekiel
on what to do about these dry bones we encounter.
Ezekiel 37:1-6:
The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord
and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth
among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that
were very dry. 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said,
“Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” 4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones
and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the
Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will
come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and
cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will
know that I am the Lord.’”
I think the most important part is, “Hear the word of the Lord!” God did not tell Ezekial to play
doctor and connect the brittle bones. God did the heavy lifting. Our job is to spread the word of
God.
Do not be overwhelmed by the dry bones around you! They need the word of God just as much
as you and I do.
