Prayers for Texas and Florida

Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma have hit Texas and Florida hard. Want to help?

We’ve all seen the devastation in Texas brought by Hurricane Harvey, the strongest hurricane to hit the US in more than a decade. Hurricane Irma has struck Florida and the Southeast with force as well.  We’ve all had that heart wrenching tug with every video and photo we see, thinking of way we can help.

Our station has compiled a list of ministries that are answering the call to help bring relief and aid to those whose world’s have been turned upside down by this storm.

  • Samaritan’s Purse – With disaster relief units already in Texas and receiving donations to help bring relief, it is expected that thousands of volunteers will be needed for months to come.
  • God’s Pit Crew – God’s Pit Crew deployed 25 tractor trailers containing Blessing Buckets and more have been sent to Texas, and preparations are being made now to respond in Florida after Hurricane Irma. These truckloads, filled with essential relief supplies, will be disbursed to those in need. Donations will help the organization continue to bring in supplies, resources, Blessing Buckets and other necessities during both the long term and short term response.
  • Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief of Oklahoma – Finding a way to serve others in the Name of Christ, Oklahoma Baptists are accepting donations to send to aid those affected by Hurricane Harvey
  • Minuteman Disaster Response – This charitable non-profit relies on donations to be able to offer life-saving services at disaster services by providing well-trained, well-equipped, self-contained task forces and strike teams to assist in search and rescue, emergency medical operations and emergency communications
  • Mercy Chefs – Principally focused on providing disaster relief, this faith-based ministry makes use of their equipment, skills and volunteers to provide professionally prepared, restaurant quality meals from their mobile kitchens for victims, volunteers and first responders in national emergencies and national disasters.
  • Convoy of Hope – Bringing hope in the storm, Convoy of Hope arrived in Texas and is working with local partners to identify the areas of greatest need and set up for distribution of many necessities that victims don’t have access to during and after a disaster.
  • Salvation Army Relief – Ready to provide physical, emotional and spiritual care to survivors and relief workers, Salvation Army has mobilized from across the country and are accepting donations to help aid with hurricane recovery efforts.
  • Catholic Charities of OK – accepting gifts to provide help and hope to those who are in need after disaster strikes in OK.
  • Operation Blessing International – Donating $25.00 or more will help OBI’s Disaster Relief Team meet the most urgent needs for victims including safe water, debris removal, home repair and more.

Our prayer is that this becomes an opportunity for us to all stretch and show God’s love to our brothers and sisters. To feed the hungry, bring shelter to the homeless and to shine a light of hope through Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.
